San Juan Island Artists: Laurie Burns Glass Studio
Laurie has a working glass studio on the island and in southern Utah where a team of artists work together to create glass sculptures, glass wall hangings, and jewelry, She has been working with glass for over 30 years. The studio tour offers a unique experience to visit her studio and spend some tiime on the beach.

Laurie received a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences from the University of Utah and worked in the healthcare field for many years. Later, she pursued Graduate Doctoral studies in Research Techniques. Her heart and spirit were always drawn to glass art. She continuously took classes in glass, metal and stonework while working as a physical therapist, and later as a researcher. While juggling her career in healthcare, Laurie began her first endeavor in glass in 1978 and has honed her skills over the past thirty years.

In fused glass, scale is limited as much by the size of kiln as by such practical limits as weight and fragility. Large works are made of several pieces mounted next to each other. The title of one such wall-sized ensemble, Laurie Burns' "Popsicles," fails to convey the optical feast she actually presents.
